A State College man was arrested on Friday morning after he allegedly attempted to rape and injured two nurses at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Conner C. Patterson, 26, was a patient at the hospital at the time. About 20 minutes after making a remark about wanting to have sex, Patterson went to the nurse’s station and pulled a nurse by her hair into his room, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by State College police.
Patterson then pushed the nurse onto his bed, causing her to strike her head on the frame, and attempted to pull her pants down, police wrote. When another nurse attempted to intervene, Patterson pushed her against the wall, causing an injury to her lower back, and pulled her pants down, according to the affidavit.
A struggle ensued until security and the hospital’s director of emergency services arrived and restrained Patterson, police wrote. The emergency services director reported that he was slammed against a wall while attempting to subdue Patterson and was experiencing neck and shoulder pain.
Patterson is charged with two felony counts of attempted rape, three felony counts of assault, two misdemeanor counts of indecent assault, one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct and three summary offenses of harrassment.
He was arraigned on Friday afternoon and denied bail by District Judge Casey McClain, who noted that Patterson is homeless and accused of violent crimes against nursing staffing. He is incarcerated at the Centre County Correctional Facility.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
